About LogoMapper
A daily game about sports teams and where they actually play.
You get a team's badge and one question: where on Earth does this lot play their home games? You answer by clicking a globe. Closer guess, more points. Five questions, new set every day.
It's part sports quiz, part geography quiz, and the fun of it is that knowing sport isn't enough on its own. Plenty of people recognise a crest instantly and still end up four hundred kilometres out, because knowing Wolfsburg and knowing where Wolfsburg is turn out to be completely different skills. That gap is basically the whole game.
Who's behind it
LogoMapper is made by Jonathan Schuller. It's independent — no affiliation with, endorsement from, or connection to any of the leagues, clubs or governing bodies that turn up in it. No company, no team. It's a side project that got considerably out of hand.
If you spot a wrong stadium, an old badge, or a club that's moved division since I last checked, I genuinely do want to hear about it. The contact page has the details.
What's in it
1,700+ teams across six sports and 60+ countries — soccer, American football, baseball, basketball, ice hockey and cricket. Every one is a real club playing a real season, and every pin is the actual ground rather than the middle of the nearest city. That difference matters more than you'd think: plenty of clubs don't play anywhere near the place they're named after.
You won't find a list of the leagues anywhere on the site, and that's deliberate. If you knew exactly which competitions were in the pool you could work out an unfamiliar badge by crossing off everything it isn't, and the hard questions would stop being hard.
The modes
- Daily — everything. Every sport, one round a day.
- Footy Daily — soccer only, and it goes deeper into the pyramid than Daily does since it isn't sharing slots with other sports.
- USA Daily — American and Canadian leagues, from the big pro ones down to lower-level baseball and college football.
The three daily modes each put out one round a day at midnight Eastern, and everyone gets the same five teams — so comparing scores with someone actually means something.
How to play covers the scoring and a few tactics worth knowing.
A few technical bits
LogoMapper is a static site. No accounts, no server-side profile — your streak and history live in your own browser's local storage. That means clearing site data wipes them, and your results don't follow you between devices. It's a deliberate trade for not collecting anything about you; the privacy policy spells out what that does and doesn't involve.
The globe runs on WebGL over satellite imagery, so on very old hardware, or with WebGL turned off, it won't show up at all.
